Tympanometry is used to perform impedance audiometry in order to assess the health of the middle ear and tympanic membrane. The test is also used to assess the acoustic reflex circuits, which include the auditory brainstem and cranial nerves (CN) VII and VIII. It is, in essence, middle ear analysis.Although findings are interpreted in conjunction with other threshold measurements, we are unable to directly quantify auditory sensitivity using the results of this test.
